As some of you know, I started a tradition a little while back when I discovered Kiva where we can make small loans via Paypal to help others around the world grow their small business and be able to support their families.
I really love this concept of empowering people to run their own small business, and I have started partially getting paid back on some of the loans we’ve made so far, so it’s nice to be able to re-loan it out to someone else, etc. It works quite well, and the Internet makes it possible for us to help people around the world with a few clicks of a mouse. It doesn’t get any easier than that!
So, today, for Father’s Day, my family and I have decided to make a loan to Yolanda in Peru. She grows plantains, citrus fruits (oranges and tangerines) as well as pineapple. Her and her husband have 4 children and they have been married for 15 years.
You can follow the progress and read about the lovely people that my family and I are helping on my lender’s page here. I feel connected to these people, and I know these loans are important to them and helping them out. Every dollar counts and makes a difference in someone’s life.
Happy Father’s Day to my father, my husband and my father-in-law! You all make a difference in my life!
