I started working out regularly again this past week, and this time around, I really wanted to make sure that I also worked on stretching my muscles on a regular basis.
I’m getting older (yikes!) and I sit a lot all day long, working at the bench or doing various things at the computer, and I feel that I’m not as limber as I used to be.
I started working out again this past week with Chalene’s Turbo Jam program from BeachBody. It’s always a favorite of mine with the great upbeat music and Chalene’s unbeatable energy - she always keeps me going!
Although there is a cool-down segment at the end of each of the workouts that I do, to me, no matter what the workout program, they all should have a longer cool-down/stretch segment at the end. But, a lot of people are on a time crunch, and so most programs don’t have a full stretch workout at the end of each session.
I own many stretching DVDs, and the latest one I bought seems to be the best one for me:
Tamilee’s Total Stretch for Beginners, which you can find online at CollageVideo.com :
If you click on the above link or image, it will take you to the listing on CollageVideo’s website where you can see a Video Preview of a few segments from the DVD.
There are 2 “workouts” on this DVD. The first one is actually separated in 3 segments: 10 min. Standing Stretch, 10 min. Sitting Stretch (on a chair), and 10 min. Floor stretch (laying on the floor). You can do 1, 2 or all 3 segments.
The 2nd workout sessions is a one-27 min stretch session that is different from the first workout.
This DVD is filmed on a really gorgeous beach location – it makes you feel like you’re on that beach with Tamilee. It’s really beautiful and soothing.
Tamilee’s voice is calming and her explanations of each simple move is really well done. She demonstrates each stretch properly and safely. This is a top notch production!
I’m working on losing weight and be in better shape/take better care of my body (aren’t we all?), and so for the time being I’ve been doing the 10 min. standing and 10 min. sitting stretch segments and I have to say that this is the best stretch exercise DVD that I have. I like that you can do just a 10 min. segment if you’re in a hurry, or take more time if you’re in the mood. It’s interesting and NOT boring.
The exercises are not complicated (hence why they say “for beginners”) but I feel that this DVD is good for everyone. Stretching movements do not have to be complicated or feel like “acrobatics” in order to work. I feel that Tamilee’s simple stretching moves are SAFE (which is very important) and easy for everyone to do. The setting on the beach is really inviting and it feels like you’re on a mini vacation.
I definitely love this DVD and I highly recommend it to everyone! Stretching helps to prevent injuries, and it also helps to make every day living easier. For often, pain is caused by tight muscles. We need to loosen up and relax.
This is a fabulous DVD to use after you’ve worked out or after you’ve gone for a walk, etc… Never do a stretching workout with “cold muscles”.
